Re: Autometrics - Optical process

The algorithm tries to find and optimal based in the characters that cone before and after each character. If you want them to have equal outlines and equal bearings then assign both code point for A and a to a single glyph and do this for the whole alphabet. Or copy and paste special to only copy/p...

Re: Maintype server version in sight ?

Since we've just released FontCreator 8, we will now need to reconsider all our plans. We intend to release new versions of both MainType and Scanahand later this year, but we haven't decided yet what features will be implemented. Given the fact not many people have requested a server edition, I'm n...

Re: Error Generating Hinting for Complex Glyph

I suggest you contact Werner Lemberg as he is the developer of ttfautohint which is the TrueType Automatic Hinter used by FontCreator.

He continues to improve the utility, and I'm sure he will look into this.

Re: Kerning pairs not exporting?

I've tried to see if the upcoming update of FontCreator would make a difference here, but unfortunately no improvements were found. The Test dialog (which uses the kerning information from the OpenType layout feature tables) fails to process the first kerning pair (Delta seven), so I suspect Windows...

Re: Problems with KERN Tables

Alright, I've just removed all glyph range checking, and then we get the exact number of kern pairs for both Calibri and Candara, so maybe I've made things more complex than needed  I suggest we stop checking for specific ranges, and include all glyphs which have at least one mapping to a Unic...

Re: Problems with KERN Tables

The Documentation doesn't specify a limit. The limit comes from the font specification. http://www.microsoft.com/typography/otspec/kern.htm A USHORT can hold an integer in this range: 0..65535 Since the kern table includes a header which stores the length of the whole kern table in a USHORT, the te...

Re: Volt and FontCreator

Can you all please attach one or more fonts with VOLT information inside, so we can test this with the upcoming enhancements?

If you don't want to share this information, then please send it directly to me or Leon. No know how to contact us by now

No, but if this is useful for more people, then we will not hesitate to implement it. So can you please explain the need for this?

Re: What I would like to see in FontCreator...

Although less common nowadays, we still we get support questions related to ANSI or ASCII Extended. Last year someone needed a custom font to work with MS-DOS! It is pretty hard to explain how to use specific characters :?

99 is a control character:

You are still thinking in the old code page area.

The trademark sign has Unicode code point 0x2122.

Re: What I would like to see in FontCreator...

I believe alt-x expects the code point in hex e.g.

161alt-x for decimal code point 353.

For codes outside the first plane make sure you first select the whole hexadecimal code point before you press alt-x.

Re: What I would like to see in FontCreator...

The Alt-X trick might still work in WordPad and Word:
Type the Character Code Point and press Alt-X.

Re: Glyphs Exceed Right Edge

I'm not sure if this is a font or layout problem. Does this happen with all fonts, or only one specific font?

Did you make, download, or buy the font?

In case you made it, what software did you use?

In case you bought it, ask the font vendor for a solution.

Either way let us know your results!

Re: Similar font installed but not loaded

Then most likely a rebooting your PC makes sure the font is no longer loaded.

Just curious; do you have any idea how it become loaded in the first place?
