Hi Myrna,
After taking a look into this issue I noticed that there was indeed a small bug that could cause InDesign to crash when the fontservice is not installed. I have resolved the bug and it will be fixed in the next MainType update.

Re: Report Printing
This feature was available in MainType 3, but due to it's complexity when multiple fonts were had to be printed at once we had to remove it from MainType 4. We like the idea though of putting it back and make it available for a single font using the toolbar of the Character grid. I added it to our w...

Re: Only one variation of a font will install
Are these by any chance Adobe fonts ? We've seen this happen with those when the family contains more than 4 different styles. MainType has no problem with those, but most other programs (like MS word for example) do not support more than 4 (regular, bold, italic and bold italic).

Re: will not recognize fonts
Are the fonts in one of your library path and have you refreshed your library? If so, the fonts should show up in the Recently Added view.

Re: How to Move or Backup and Restore Your Font Collection
You can backup your fonts and settings via the FMSConfig utility. This can be found in your start menu in the High-Logic MainType folder. (or if you have windows vista/7 you can type FMS in your search bar in the start menu)

Re: Can you install software .exe file on EHD?
Technically it might be possible, but a lot of things would have to be taken into consideration. The most important one is that the external harddisk must be connected BEFORE you start your computer/laptop, otherwise the fontservice cannot find the database and fontvault and will end up in an errors...

Re: Find Duplicate Fonts
MainType 4 introduced "Font comparison" in the font information panel where you can simply drag multiple fonts (upto 5) onto it. There you can compare font properties like create and modification dates, number of glyphs and characters etc... To compare the fonts visually you could create a...

Hi cerulean,
When you add the new family to MainType, you can safely delete the older version(s). When you delete a font from MainType and also choose to ignore it, it will only ignore exactly that one and not the entire family or other (future) versions.

Re: Add Entire Font Family on Adding Font to Group
Hi Ardy,
Did you know you can set your font list to family grouping? This way you don't have to create your groups manually, and you can easily turn it on and off using the button on the toolbar

Hi Pavel,
We are still working on getting MainType 4.5 ready for release, but unfortunately it's taking a little longer than we anticipated.

Re: Font grups
Hi Ken, Unfortunately not at the moment. We have been thinking about implementing a true client-server model for MainType, but we haven't had the time to work on this yet. However, network support will be added in MainType 4.5 which should be released in a few weeks and this might serve your needs. ...

Re: Complex Fonts
Hi Thomas, If the message "Font too complex" is shown, it means that MainType has detected that the font will slow down MainType and probably your entire system if it needs to show it when you are browsing through your font lists. You can still show the font by clicking the "Show anyw...

Re: How can I sort fonts by date added?
This is already possible, simply rightclick on one of the columns in the font list and enable the "Date added" column. You can now sort the list by left-clicking on the "Date added" column header
