Re: How to view small caps
That depends on the font. If the Small Capital glyphs have no character mappings and do not appear in the Character pane unless "Show all glyphs" (click the G icon) is enabled, then "Add to sample" will be greyed out on the right-click menu in the Character pane. Otherwise, right...

Re: Problem with unicode private use area glyphs
Try using Calibre instead. If the bug doesn't affect that then perhaps the problem is with Adobe Digital Edition not supporting the PUA area properly.

Deleted Fonts Still Appear in Font Library
I have six copies of the same font in my Font Library. Only one is still on my hard disk, and none are installed. After editing the OTF version to correct the date information, I deleted all of the others from Windows Explorer, but even an older version is still listed in the library along with five...

The TrueType Viewer will let you preview OpenType features to see if they work, even if you don't have InDesign or PagePlus or Word 2010 to test them.

The skew is a tangent — move horizontally by 36.4000 will give an angle of 20° for a glyph height of 1024 funits

Re: new career in font creation
There is a lot more to creating high quality fonts than first meets the eye. You may be very creative but to make money at it may not be so easy. Here's a few key points: If you want to produce commercial fonts, you need to buy the Professional Edition of FontCreator If your designs include fine str...

Re: Saving OTF Fonts
FCP doesn't strip the OpenType tables from the font, so unless you change Postscript names, the order of glyphs, or other such, I can't imagine any problem cropping up. FontCreator can strip some tables on opening fonts — it depends on the settings in Options, Font, but I have all checkboxes disabl...

Saving OTF Fonts
When I run TTF fonts through OpenType Compiler to add OpenType features it sets the Modified and Created dates back to 1 January 1904. I can open them in FontCreator and enter the correct dates, then save as TTF, renaming as OTF in the process or in Windows Explorer, and all seems to work well. Are ...

Re: copyrights
If you have a copy of FontCreator, then why do it via Scanahand? Scanahand is limited to a relatively low resolution scan because its tracing a whole page. FontCreator traces one glyph at a time. Scanning an Entire Alphabet BTW, your font is missing a lot of essential glyphs. I recommend starting a ...

Re: kerning problem
This is one of the limitations of Scanahand — it cannot get the spacing right if fonts have swashes. In FontCreator you can edit the right side-bearing for the Q to make it negative — then create kerning pairs if you need them. It is debatable whether any font needs a kerning pair for QA — does it e...

Re: uninstall a font
There's a list of System Fonts in the MainType Help file. Maybe you should just leave those and uninstall any others that you don't use.
I keep copies of my fonts organised outside of the Windows Fonts folder.

Re: uninstall a font
See Tools, Options for the backup folder used by MainType to store uninstalled fonts. Search with Google to find a list of fonts installed with your OS. There may be more if you have enabled fonts for Asian languages, left to right scripts, etc. I just tested by uninstalling Franklin Gothic which I ...

Re: Making Transparent Fonts
Its better to apply the transparency (or bitmap fills) in a drawing application.
Lots of small contours will cause all sorts of problems in fonts at small sizes — especially without hinting. A larger pattern is viable.

Re: problem importing EPS files
We need an EPS file to test this, but it may be easy to fix with the Glyph Validation Toolbar, by correcting contour directions.
This PDF didn't import correctly either, so I suspect there is a problem.

Re: MainType 4.0 Release Candidate 1 is here
If I try to install MainType 4.0 Release Candidate, by default it will install in C:\Program Files\High-Logic\MainType\ which is where MainType 3.0 is already installed. Presumably the thing to do is to create a new folder such as C:\Program Files\High-Logic\MainType 4\ and install it there? Is that...
