Re: Since version 6 some oddity
I can confirm that there is a problem if the "Large Fonts" setting is used in Desktop, Properties, Appearance. The dialogue should allow for this. Some other dialogues suffer from the same problem too, e.g. Options, General. The problem is worse with Extra Large fonts.

Re: Em and line gaps
what's the em-number for, if computer already have all the necessary information about about line spacing from Win-ascent, Win-descent and Typo Line Gap? Think of funits/em as the resolution of the font design grid. If you have a finer grid, you can design finer details. 2048 is adequate for most f...

Re: Em and line gaps
The values used for funits/em are multiples of 2 because computers work faster with binary maths. You can use 4096 or 8192 if you like. You can also use funits/em values of 1,000 or whatever if you prefer. With modern PCs it is hardly likely to affect the rendering speed of your fonts. Format, Setti...

Re: Exporting/importing kern values errors?
I seem not to be shrewd enough to figure out where to Shift/Control/Left+click (or mabe I expect a wrong effect:/. Could you please clarify where/when to input these combinations and what should be the result (tremendous thanks for your patience in advance!;)? No need to click anywhere. Select the ...

Re: Flexibility
Well, but not always everything runs so smooth, like W+umlaut that needs more space between dots, so you can easily make it from two periods etc. The right way to do this is to use different accents for lowercase and uppercase. You may notice some fonts that do this — Gentium is one example. Gentiu...

Re: Flexibility
Not everyone is going to have a wide screen monitor. The transform tab may be better floating than docked, but the basic idea of adding composite glyph properties to the transform tab is good enough. I don't see the need for add/remove buttons on the composite glyph dialogue. It could lead to errors...

Re: Creating a ZWSP with width?
ZeroWidthSpace.png Sorry for the late reply. I only just noticed your post. As you can see, Font Creator has no problem displaying a glyph in a zero-width space in the Preview Toolbar, but it doesn't display it in the Font Test window. OpenOffice does not display the glyph either, although the zero...

Re: Too much kerning?
Nearly all programs need kerning to be enabled. OpenOffice Writer certainly does. Format, Character, Position, Pair Kerning.

Re: Alternate names for Bold and Italic?
I looked into this earlier, but couldn't see an obvious solution. You can name a font as, e.g. FontName Oblique, instead of FontName Italic, in the Autonaming wizard, but it will still show up as FontName with family italic in application font dialogues. What is the meaning of an "expy" fo...

Re: Alt key question
When you hold down the alter key and type 1-9 on the numeric keypad you get ☺☻♥♦♣♠•◘○ In hexadecimal, these are glyphs 263A 263B 2665 2666 2663 2660 2022 25D8 25CB In decimal, they are 9786 9787 9829 9830 9827 9824 8226 9688 9675 So, try mapping your glyphs to those values in your font (Use insert c...

Re: Problem with importing vectors
I don't see the point of using Illustrator to vectorize the bitmaps. FontCreator is optimised for vectorising bitmaps for fonts. If you want to work on the vectors in Illustrator, create the font from the scans. install the font, then convert the text into curves within Illustrator, and use its vect...
