Does it really matter if you use folders and files (file names) or font groups and fonts (font names)?

Re: Search for duplicate and invalid fonts

That would be disastrous! Well, no, it wouldn't. There could easily be several options for searching different kinds of duplicates so that everybody gets what he wants. And "similars" can be very different and useful. I have many fonts in version 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 2.0, 2.1 and so on. I reall...

Re: Duplicates

Since MainType 4 doesn't handle folders but only fonts, there will only be one database entry (if they are "real" duplicates). If the fonts differ in any way (e. g. the version number), there will be as many entries as you have different versions of the font. The folders themselves will be...

Well - you can enter your own descriptions here. Just right-click on a group, choose "Edit Group" and enter any description you like.

Re: Import v. 2/3 font groups into v.4

Is there a way to back-reference these copied files to the original files in my main font folder (to which the shortcuts reference)? Otherwise I'd have again several folders containing the same files - exactly the thing I want to avoid with a font manager... Well, using MainType 4, you don't have t...

Yes, that is correct; I've fixed it in the OP.
No, you didn't...

Unfortunately I don't have much time to care for my fonts at the moment, but I'll have an eye on it.

Re: How to add fonts to groups?

With the latest version (get it through the built-in update feature, or download MainType from our download page) you can now copy and paste fonts to groups. Fine! It would be even better if there were context menu entries for copying and pasting - always using the Edit menu isn't optimal, and sinc...

Re: Search for duplicate and invalid fonts

After that we might add another feature to remove similars. That would be great - I don't need five different versions of a font, and if you have more than a few hundred fonts, it's quite tedious to find duplicates by scrolling though the list of fonts. For me it would be enough to check the names ...

Yes, the text isn't always the same; I've noticed that, too.

Re: Search for duplicate and invalid fonts

At the moment you can't do much with this information. Invalid resources are fonts that do not comply with the TTF/OTF/Type-1 standards and they do not show up in MainType. Duplicate resources are 2 binary identical files of which you will only see 1 in MainType. Okay, thanks for explaining this. A...

Re: Un-ignore deleted fonts

MainType gives you 2 dialogs before deleting a font so that should already make you think twice before actually removing a font. Okay, I didn't try it, so I never saw these dialogs. It was more of a theoretical thought. Nevertheless it should be possible to change one's mind after a year or so... :...
