Re: Adding new fonts to groups
Its best to ignore Windows Explorer, and just use MainType to organise your fonts. If you add new fonts to your library, you can just drag and drop them from there to add them to any group, or use Ctrl C, Ctrl V to copy paste fonts from one group to another.

The manual is installed with the program. If you just want a preview of what it can do, take a look at my brief review of MainType 4

Re: Cyrillic cursive
1. Be careful of leaving those remnants of "Include Outlines" in the font. every font you make should only have glyphs in the same style throughout even if this means leaving out important letters. I strongly disagree. A font without important characters like smart quotes, brackets, and p...

Re: Customizing columns in Groups panel
Yes, I realised that, but for now I have better things to do than talking to myself about my fonts. Later, I may add some notes about modifications I have made to different versions.Enigma wrote:Well - you can enter your own descriptions here.

Re: Customizing columns in Groups panel
Agreed. This is a slight irritation. The setting is not saved with a docking layout either.
Maybe one day this description field will be useful, but for now it's empty for all fonts, and not needed yet.

Re: chars not show in PS CS2, but in test mode ok
Try Format, Settings, Ranges, Unicode Character Ranges, Calculate,
and Code Pages, Calculate.
Then uninstall the old font and reinstall the updated font.

Re: How is the Font Picture Generated
Would it be easier to start with a "Hinted" non copyrighted font, then replace my characters to produce a hinted font? Will my new characters then have hinting? No. Any new characters, and any existing characters that you modify will be unhinted. If you don't modify any of the characters ...

Re: How is the Font Picture Generated
As it says at the FAQ link: Screen fonts are incredibly complex to make well, but if you want to hint your font then you could use Microsoft Visual TrueType to add hinting to your fonts. VTT is a professional-level tool for graphically instructing TrueType and OpenType fonts. If you're new to font c...

Re: How is the Font Picture Generated
If the font lacks hinting , changing those settings won't add it. FontCreator will retain hinting if it already exists in a font — unless you edit a glyph, then it will be removed for that glyph. If you created the font from scratch in FontCreator, then hinting was never there in the first place. If...

Re: How to Move or Backup and Restore Your Font Collection
Compressing the backup with 7-Zip reduced the backup folder to a manageable 102 Mbytes.
I agree that the vault needs to be fast, but I think the backup needs to be small. Speed is not much of an issue for something done only occasionally.

Its on the All Programs menu on the Start Menu.
You're not alone — Serif programs do that too after patching them.

Re: Memory Access fault
If you're running FontCreator 6.1 then you're entitled to a free upgrade to FontCreator 6.2, which is the latest version. I would suggest doing that first, then see if the problem occurs again. Help, Check for updates.

Restart MainType — A Cosmetic Bug [Solved/Closed]
Just another little problem with not enough space being allowed on the dialogues for larger fonts. The button could be moved down a bit — there is plenty of space. Restart MainType.png More irritating, is that every time I patch MainType it adds items to my Start menu, and I have to delete them agai...
