Re: Font Based Templates

I can send the font file privately (tell me how) since it is copyrighted ...

However, the current behavior of Scanahand is exactly what I needed - I was looking for a complete WGL4 coverage, and that's almost exactly what I got ...

Re: Font Based Templates

BTW, the reason I am asking: It occurred to me that there is a very handy way to get Scanahand to build a template for a give code page or set of code pages by creating an empty font in FC, then checking off the code page bits you want. Using that font as the [Font Based...] source will get you a te...

Font Based Templates

I'm looking at an interesting behavior when I use the [Font Based...] approach in the Template Editor: Characters that are not in the font get included in the template . The situation comes up with a font that has the Code Page Range bits for the first 5 bits set (Windows code pages 1250 through 125...

Re: Identity of the Preview file

I can confirm the bug is fixed, with the possibly exception of one micro-mini-niggly: When you go from a loaded template page to an empty one, the preview line still shows the name of the last template file you previewed. Maybe it should say "Empty" as it does when you have a Step 2 that h...

[FIXED] Identity of the Preview file

This is pretty minor - but ... In Step 2, as I load scanned images from each page, there is an item below the scroll box that says "Preview - <Name of File> ". As I load each page, the <Name of File> changes to the filename I have just loaded. All OK. Then, if I go back and click on a prev...

Re: "Matches" Challenge

I'm thinking this would make a great exercise for a college class. My wife, Vera, teaches a course at FIT - a State University of New York school with a heavy focus on design. They do have courses that involve font design ... I'm just looking at the course catalog, for example at http://www.fitnyc.e...

Visible Glyphs for Non-visible Characters

Should I use visible glyphs for code points that normally render invisibly? For U+FEFF ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE, my fonts had a glyph with no contours and zero advance width. Then I saw the SIL document Recommended Characters for Non-Roman Fonts (https://scriptsource.org/entry/gg5wm9hhd3), which s...

Re: Font Selection in Word

After some testing in Microsoft Word , I can confirm that selecting ... [X] Chinese: Traditional chars —Taiwan and Hong Kong (950) in Font => Properties => Ranges => Code Page Character Ranges => Edit ... allowed my font to be selected by Word for bona fide Chinese characters. I tried the same test ...

The checkbox "OEM Character Set"

When should / would I set the checkbox on Font => Properties => Ranges => Code Page Character Ranges => Exit =>

[X] OEM Character Set

I've run into a dead end looking for more info on this field. Many fonts do seem to have this turned on ...

Re: Font Selection in Word

Spot on! That does seem to be exactly my issue. (I should have been able to locate that 2014 post in the forum, but I was not searching for the right terms.) So my ulUnicodeRange bits were set correctly. My characters are in the 4E00-9FFF range which is one of the ranges in the massive range repres...

Font Selection in Word

Having trouble with font selection in MS Word (Office 365 on Win10x64) (Drivin me Crazeeeee ) I've created and installed a font that has the WGL4 subset (Pan-Euro 657 characters) plus a substantial number of Traditional Chinese (TC) characters. Call it MyTC. In MS Word I have a style that explicitly...

Re: Panose between Systems

I suspect that the sum total of planet-wide frustration with the pitfalls of auto-font selection in Word is massive (MS estimates 1.2 billion people use Word ). Designing a font collection to cover more than 65K code points is daunting. I am looking into using Panose values to emphatically nudge Wor...

Panose between Systems

I am beginning to use Panose heavily to encourage systems to use the correct font for missing code points (based, in part, on Dave Crosby's posts on this forum). Here's the question: If your document file ( let's say we're talking MS Word .DOC/DOCX files ) uses a font that is not on the authoring sy...
