Re: font with old english ligatures
Yes, I noticed that. I've attached a screen capture of part of the 'A' - there should be smoothly rounded transitions from the top of the middle bar to the sloping sides of the glyph, but unfortunately I'm a beginner with FontCreator and don't know how to change the sharp corners to smoothly rounded...

Re: font with old english ligatures
vanisaac, Thanks for the rapid reply and suggestions as to the font. I hadn't realized that the ligatures had already been assigned their unique values, and I'll change their assignments as suggested. I mistakenly thought that any of the private use values would be ok for them. Also, will try to cle...

font with old english ligatures
Here's a font I created with Scanahand, it is based on a commercial Garamond font, and has the various ligatures used in Old English (early 1700's) together with the AE, OE, ae, and oe ligatures. I have no problems if anyone would like to change the name or modify the font in any way, as far as I'm ...

Re: scanahand font problem
I've checked the font with other word processors, with Photoshop, and Corel Designer, and I think the problem lies with Open Office.

scanahand font problem
Well, I worked more on the kerning of the font, and decided it was pretty good with a few exceptions that I need to work on some more. A serious problem with the Scanahand font, though, is that for all of the glyphs, when I tested it with Open Office. Although the kerning works fine with OO, I notic...

Re: kerning problem
Bhikkhu, Many thanks! I found why I could not get the 'proper' kerning - I was proofing the font with MS Word 2003 and apparently this program does not allow kerning (?) I used another program, 'Corel Designer', wrote some test text in rdcgaramond.ttf, and all the kerned pairs looked pretty good. Wi...

kerning problem
I've enclosed a font I created with Scanahand; I can't seem to get the Q to kern correctly no matter what I do with FontCreator; I think the problem is related to the large tail and FontCreator doesn't seem to know how to kern such a glyph (or I don't know how to handle correct kerning) I've tried a...

Re: copyrights
Thanks for the reply. Actually, recently I purchased High-Logic' Scanahand, and found that is is very simple to use that program to copy, via printing the glyphs of a commercial font, to produce a pretty good copy of the font. Kerning is not bad although not nearly as satisfactory as that of the ori...

scanahand copyrights
I noticed in my recently purchased Scanahand Pro that when I create a scanned font, there is a copyright notice by Scanahand for the font as show in FontCreator? Does this mean that High Logic has the copyright for all fonts created by Scanahand?

copyrights
I understand from various internet sites that fonts can't be copyrighted, but that it is a contravention of copyrights if a font such as Adobe Garamond is opened by a program such as FontCreator, slightly changed by moving the control points, then saving and considering a new font - this is the diff...

Re: kerning WA, VA and AW, AV
Thanks for the informative posts. Once I was clued in about MS word, there was no difficulty in finding the test font and trying it out with Word. I'm still having difficulty with closing up the AW etc. but I was able to compress the space a little bit by using the metrics and changing the white spa...

Re: kerning WA, VA and AW, AV
Thanks for the fast reply. I used the font preview window and it showed the AW etc were very close together. Then I saved the font, and installed it in Win XP, but the AW etc were still too far apart. The preview did not show the proper relationships between the letters. Also, I tried a preview in m...

kerning WA, VA and AW, AV
I having a dickens of a time getting the spacing between these letters smaller. I've tried kerning a metrics but they are still too far apart. Perhaps I'm not doing the kerning correctly: I choose 'kerning', then adjust the 4 pairs until they seem close enough, but when I click on 'ok' and test the ...

adding another glyph?
I am a rank beginner with fonts, but have a problem in trying to create new glyphs. I have a public domain font that has many stacked fractions (those with a horizontal bar). I'd like to add others such as 1/200 etc. I was able to add a new glyph after the last in the font. The last one was labeled ...

Re: Windows: double click font name
I think I found the answer: it has to do with the original font being open type. I originally had used FontCreator to do all the changes eventually saving as true type - this gave errors no matter what I tried with FC. Finally, I used another font program to open the otf file, deleted the unneeded g...
