Re: Sample Pane and Preview always use ligatures if available

If you don't see ligatures in some applications, then they don't support OpenType features. Microsoft Office up to 2007 doesn't support OpenType features at all. Office 2010 was the first version to support it, and it still defaults to not using any features at all...you have to manually change you...

Re: Font shows red in preview even though all characters available

I think the main issue is the fact the first glyph is known as the missing glyph. So if you have your space character mapped to the first glyph, it is treated as missing. Can you confirm this? Adding a ".notdef" glyph fixed the problem, so that was it. Is having the first/missing glpyh al...

Font shows red in preview even though all characters available [Closed]

I have a lot of fonts that show as red in the preview (implying missing characters from the preview), even though all characters are there. Many of these fonts have been run through FontCreator by me to change properties like name, foundry, embedding, etc., but some have been untouched. It turns out...

Re: "Quick Search" and "Tag Search" always search the entire library

It is clearly not a bug, whatever you want to call it. Quick search is designed to search the entire database, and it does its job very well. As I said, although it was likely intentional, but it's not very intuitive. If have been working with a subset of fonts (like a view or a group), and you sea...

Zoom Panel does not show code point, name, etc.

The Zoom Panel needs to have the same functionality as the zoom popup, since many people have the panel shown all the time and don't use the popup at all.

Sample Pane and Preview always use ligatures if available [Closed]

In MainType 7.0.0, the Sample Pane replaces regular characters with ligatures if the font defines them. I assume it also displays using kerning, but that is harder to check. Although this is a nice feature, it won't always show exactly what other applications will display when the font is used in th...

Re: Font "investigate" utility

There are several reasons why it didn't make it into recent versions of MainType. - Many fonts contain invalid or incomplete PANOSE information Although true, you are making the assumption that all PANOSE data in font files is completely useless. FontExpert has a nice PANOSE search tool that allows...

"Quick Search" and "Tag Search" always search the entire library

If you have a view or group selected, Quick Search still returns results from the entire library. Although this may be "by design", I'd call it a bug, since this means that if you have thousands of fonts in a view or group, the only way to find one font in that view or group is to scroll f...

Re: What does "Resource: Available/Not Available" do in views?

If a resource is not available, MainType is not able to find it on your computer. The fonts that are available might be similar, e.g. have the same font name, but are not exact matches. I think you need to read again what I wrote. It's not possible that the font resources in the files aren't exact ...

What does "Resource: Available/Not Available" do in views?

I was creating some views, and tried the "Resource: Not Available" option, and some of my fonts matched. Does that option have anything to do with the "Resources" in the Font Information panel? If so, why do fonts that exist on disk in the location listed under "Files" ...

Re: Database management

Old thread, I know, but the problem is still there. In particular, if you remove a font from MainType, there is no choice not to ignore that font. Then, if you later get a font with the same name, you won't see it until you un-ignore. Unfortunately, this also shows any "ghost" records for ...

Font name sometimes displays PostScript name instead of Windows name

In Version 7.0.0 (build 1012), sometimes the displayed font name (and the "Full font name" in the Font Information panel) is the PostScript name, and not the Windows name. For example: Fontlist.jpg You can see that the two highlighted lines show font names of "FreeSerif-Italic" a...
