Construction "background"

I would also like to explore a feature to make a "construction background" where you are able to arrange shapes into position, then move them into the background to serve as a construction template for drawing a character, with the control points visible, with the option of snapping to the...

Double Point feature

Might as well get these ideas out so that others can chime in. I'd like to see a right-click option for off-curve points that would do the following: 1. if a point adjacent to the selected off-curve point is another off-curve, add an on-curve point at the midpoint between the two off curve points. 2...

Re: Problem with kerning for Hebrew fonts in Word

There's even a kern2volt executable that they have available in the VOLT supplemental files. Visit http://www.microsoft.com/typography/VOLT.mspx to download the latest copy.

Re: Format 14 cmap subtable

It supports all formats (format 0, 2, 4, 6, and 12) that are used by Windows for the purpose of the mapping of character codes to the glyph index values used in a font. Format 14 is a special format as it specifies the Unicode Variation Sequences (UVSes) supported by a font. I was wondering specifi...

Re: Format 14 cmap subtable

So what Cmap subtable formats does FCP support?

PS, if anyone needs to add a format 14 subtable to one of their fonts, send me a private message - I think I've found a tool that can do it.

Re: How to type the symbols that are not on the keyboard

Modern Windows users actually have a kind of neat option of a Unicode Input Method Editor that is already installed on your computer. You just have to enable it in your language taskbar and go. More detail at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/michkap/archive ... 19117.aspx

Re: How is the Font Picture Generated

You do not turn on font hinting, hinting is added to a font. It is an incredibly complex process by which a designer actually programs the computer to alter the shape of the font outline. Let me repeat, you cannot turn on font hinting. That's not what it is. You have to program it. Bikkhu already me...

Re: Insert a new character in Traditional Arabic font

I know that Microsoft typography has some information on using VOLT to add all the right OpenType tables for different scripts, and that their Arabic info is probably the most extensive. I've never made an Arabic font, so I only know what I've been told, but getting proper contextual forms to select...

Re: Insert a new character in Traditional Arabic font

This is one of those times when you need to be able to access the OpenType features of the font. Specifically, you need to be able to perform a substitution where Ghaa.iso -> Ghaa.init, Ghaa.iso->Ghaa.medi, and Ghaa.iso->Ghaa.fina are each bound to the OpenType features <init>, <medi>, and <fina> in...

Re: Automatic mappings

No, the font contains only the two mapped glyphs, and two other glyphs that are accessed via OpenType substitution (with VOLT). I made this font to test the TTX program that transforms TTF fonts to and from an XML font format. I was just concerned that it might be an unexpected behavior - it certain...

Re: copyrights

There are two questions here - is producing and selling a look-alike font produced partly by Scanahand or Adobe Illustrator illegal by US Copyright Laws as interpreted by the courts, and/or is it immoral/unethical. I think the courts have decided so far that it is not illegal. I think it is unethic...

Re: Saving OTF Fonts

FCP doesn't strip the OpenType tables from the font, so unless you change Postscript names, the order of glyphs, or other such, I can't imagine any problem cropping up.

Re: Two Arabic characters connected together

Afternoon Vanisaac and thank you very much for your prompt reply. I am very sorry for this late reply, I just came back from my holidays- Eid celebration. Ok, your explanation sounds well to me, but what is the right mapping in the font. I cannot put all the mappings (0644064e200d0627) for a charac...
