I'm working on a font which I cannot save after sorting the glyphs. FontCreator reports a Range check error. Any idea what causes this problem?

I think you can achieve what you want by taking the following steps:
- copy the glyph
- stretch the copy
- remove the parts in the copy you *don't* want stretched
- remove the parts in the original glyph you want stretched
- past the copy into the original glyph.

I assume there isn't an easy way to preserve the hinting in opening a PostScript based font? Would be a nice enhancement, wouldn't it?

Do you mean modern Greek only? Or the polytonic variants as well?

In editing the slashed 0 you destroyed its hinting. The changed character should print OK.

To preserve hinting you can make the dotted 0 a composite glyph.

Your problems are not related to font creating. I think you need a keyboard driver which doesn't print anything when you press U V W X Y Z u v w x y z. I suggest Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator which is available at the Microsoft site for free (http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/msklc.mspx)....

I don't know of any Hebrew fonts that use Open Type. The Hebrew fonts that came with my Windows are not Open Type, and so far as I can tell none of the Open Type stuff in the Windows core fonts is Hebrew-related. When a glyph is shown on screen it has to be converted to a bitmap, a rectangle of pixels, which will be switched on or off. On the other hand, hints (or their absence) should NOT influence printing, as it only works on screen.

When in a font file the font subfamily name is not included XP refuses to install the font. Simply opening and saving the font in FC doesn't solve the problem: you need to supply a name.
