Okay, well, something is causing my MainType to malfunction, then!
So, I had to restart MainType. Now it's working correctly. Must have been something in the sequence of install/delete that caused the hangup.

Re: v6.958 Incorrect Font Properties Panel Data
Erwin,
Okay, now switch between those fonts and see if the Font Properties *Panel* changes.

v6.958 Incorrect Font Properties Panel Data
Working with FontCreator and MainType, I updated my font and adjusted the em spacing from 2048 to 1000 and the font revision from 1.305 to 1.306 and then exported the font. Then in MainType I refreshed the library and pulled in my new font. However, when I view the font's properties in MainType - fo...

Re: Adobe Reader says: 'Cannot extract the embedded font'
Okay, the cut and paste trick worked well for resizing the em spacing. The general and metrics settings look about the same now in my font as they do in the one my friend edited in FontForge. However, my font still won't embed properly - it keeps giving the error. But my friend's font works just fin...

Re: Export as ttf
So, in the end, you can use the extensions interchangeably. But it is good practice to use .otf if you include opentype layout features, and .ttf if you don't. This sounds reasonable.
Why doesn't FontCreator switch the extension to .ttf automatically if you don't export the opentype layout features?

Adobe Reader says: 'Cannot extract the embedded font'
We figured this out! So, I am using LaTeX to create a pdf using a particular font. The pdf opens just fine. But when I PLACE that pdf in InDesign and export it as a pdf, I get this error: screenshot_Adobe Reader (Adobe Reader ) [AcroRd32]_022.png I sent the font to a friend, and they adjusted the em...

Re: Export as ttf
Oh - I found it.
When you are in the Export Dialogue, and you browse for a file location, you can choose *.ttf in the file dialogue's combobox.
I expected to see it in the Export Options.

Export as ttf
Can FontCreator export a font as .ttf instead of .otf ? It seems like I can't find any option to specify .ttf in the export dialogue.
Does it even matter?
I tried not including opentype layout options in the export dialogue, but it still creates a .otf file.
I'm probably confused.

Re: Can't install font because it is loaded
When I use the I+ button in FontCreator 9, it provides me with a wizard. Wizard says, 1.Remove the previous version through Windows Fonts folder 2. Close all applications... 3. Restart Windows, or 4. Change the font name But I use MainType, so I should not even consider the Windows fonts folder. Als...

Re: Fixing Hieroglyphs
I think I've resolved it.
I exported the font with hinting off.
There were no hieroglyphs after that, but it was kind of ugly on the screen,
so I set hinting back to auto and exported the font again.
I think that fixed the problem, as I'm not getting hieroglyphs now.

Re: Can't install font because it is loaded
Probably.
Before I rebooted I deleted my Windows font cache just in case.
But now my font is installed.
I am rather put out about all this.
If I update a font on my computer, I can't then use it without rebooting the machine.
It is the same thing every time.

Re: Fixing Hieroglyphs
Thanks.
I've done both things, actually.
I exported the font without any hinting, and the validator passes 100%.

Re: Can't install font because it is loaded
The problem here isn't that the font is locked. It's that MainType can't install the font because it thinks the font is "loaded". And the font does not exist in MainType anymore. edit: Ah, actually I do see it now in "Active Fonts" with a red sphere next to it. It has no informat...

Can't install font because it is loaded
Today I revised a font that I created in FontCreator. First, in MainType, I search for my font by name, and there were two entries for my font. So I uninstalled the one that was installed. Then I deleted both of them from MainType. Then I revised the font in FontCreator and exported it to a new loca...

Re: Fixing Hieroglyphs
Mr. Pesala, Well, maybe its not hinting, but *something* is wrong with it! I printed it and scanned the print and included an image of what prints. I would still like to try removing the hinting anyway. I can't find anything in Font Creator called "hinting" though. Would these Metrics make...
