Re: Font foundry info?
Properties -> Legal -> Vendor ID / Vendor (Manufacturer) I guess I mean the box above that, where you get a drop-down list of already-established names (I presume), so not " Vendor (Manufacturer)" but rather "Vendor ID." How do you get an "ID"? If that's nothing I need...

Re: Thoreau's Hand - Based on the Handwriting of Henry David Thoreau
OMG Psymon, It was absolutely inadvertent! I thought you overlapped those glyphs on purpose...the way Thoreau really may have done it. Ha ha, that's one thing I learned about doing a font like this, that it's incredibly easy to miss mistakes because the font itself is like a mess of tangled wires -...

Re: Need Help with Handwriting Font
Hey, thanks for the replies on this, Erwin and Bhikkhu! You both bring up some rather good points -- and yes, I have indeed encountered that issue you illustrated (literally), Erwin, with the opening apostrophe showing up as a left-quote, rather than a right-quote. Nevertheless, I still find myself ...

Re: Need Help with Handwriting Font
I think I figured out how to resolve my previous conundrum -- I just kerned the period (etc.) away from my "h," which then pushed the quote mark away, too, of course. But without a quote, that period looks kinda far away -- but then, that's how Thoreau often wrote them himself. If I had my...

Re: Need Help with Handwriting Font
What do you do with cases like this? I just used the word "witch" as an example, of course -- it's timely. ;) But I did my kerning on the "h" and double-quote, and they look fine whether it's the regular "h" or the alternative, ender "h," but as soon as I add ...

Re: Thoreau's Hand - Based on the Handwriting of Henry David Thoreau
I was actually confused by that open quotation...I didn't think you were the kind of fontographer (sp?) who would ignore that and I almost asked you to go out of your way and fix that... haha! It was just my word processor glitching. Oh, gee, the opening quotation -- eek! I need to fix that, to! Fe...

Re: Thoreau's Hand - Based on the Handwriting of Henry David Thoreau
Omigod, Jonne, I'm speechless! Don't know what to say -- except that I, too, am appreciative that you seem to have picked up on those little details that I hoped someone would, and so it means a lot that those efforts weren't for naught. Love what you did with the Declaration of Independence, too! C...

Re: Thoreau's Hand - Based on the Handwriting of Henry David Thoreau
Oh, crap. I was just glancing at those handwriting-font comparisons I posted in my initial post again, and all of a sudden I see the most glaringly-obvious things that need better kerning -- and that doesn't surprise me, that I'm still finding things that could use fixing up (that ALWAYS happens, no...

Re: Thoreau's Hand - Based on the Handwriting of Henry David Thoreau
Oh, I forgot to mention... using Thoreau's Hand Oblique (only), type "error404" (one word, no spaces, all lowercase) and you'll get a nice little Thoreauvian correction. So if perchance you were doing something up and REALLY wanted to make it look "real," you could throw in a lit...

Re: Need Help with Handwriting Font
So I did the "official release" via my website (and on Facebook, etc.) of my Thoreau fonts the other day, version 1.00, and within 2 hours I realized I hadn't kerned my "fi" lig -- yikes! So I immediately went to correct that oversight, and soon came out with version 1.01. After ...

Thoreau's Hand - Based on the Handwriting of Henry David Thoreau
og-image-thoreau104.jpg Hi folks! There's lots I could say about my new family of fonts, based on the handwriting of American Transcendentalist author Henry David Thoreau, but rather than be redundant you can read all about it (with illustrations) -- and, if you'd like, download it! -- at my web pa...
