Re: How to (auto)generate font with many special characters
Producing the composites below by modifying existing accents was a matter of a few minutes' work without any special modifications being required. As you can see, there may be problems with the length of lines over/under characters of different width.

Re: How to (auto)generate font with many special characters
The Professional edition of FontCreator is ideally suited to a task like this. You can use complete composites to create your several versions of each letter, as one normally does for à á ã á ä ā and so forth. You could perhaps replace each accent with one, two, or three horizontal lines, and use th...

Stage 4 Open the ½ stacking fraction in the Glyph Edit Window, select the simple glyph contours, and delete them. Paste the composite glyph members from the clipboard to replace them. Stacking Fractions 04.png Scroll to the ¼ stacking fraction in the glyph edit window. Don't close the glyph edit wi...

Stacking Fractions
Creating Composites in the Home Edition (contd.) This tutorial shows you how to make a full set of stacking fractions with composites using the copy and paste method, but first you will need to create the simple glyphs by scaling the figures. Stage 1 Copy and paste the simple glyphs from stacking f...

Re: OTF-Fonts
The only solution is to add the hinting back again with another program. You can modify the line-spacing of a TTF font without losing the hinting, but as far as I know you lose the hinting when you open an OTF font because the tables used for hinting are not supported. You will see in Format, Tables...

Re: Drawing artwork for fonts
I don't have DrawPlus 8. In DrawPlus X2 or X3, any line can use a calligraphic line style. This is a quick ellipse. I would be surprised if this was not available in earlier versions of DrawPlus. You select the weight and angle of the calligraphic brush in the Line Tab.

Re: how do i?
FontCreator only saves in TTF format. If you cannot get the font to work, maybe there is something wrong with it, or its not installed properly. You can attach it here if you want.

Have you tried rebooting your PC? If you like to attach the font I can look at it for you to see if anything is obviously wrong.

Re: Thinning out glyphs
If you are using the Pro edition or the Trial edition (the same thing), you can use a Glyph Transformation to do this in one step. Tools, Glyph Transformations, and click the Open folder icon. There are several different Thin Transformations to choose from. They may need adjusting to suit your font'...

Re: Are OpenType and budget software incompatible?
The font designer should decide which ligatures are "standard" and which are "discretional." I don't think there is any hard and fast rule. For a medieval font design, the designer could decide that all ligatures would be standard. However, it would be nice if one can ask Firefox...

Cankama • An OpenType Black Letter Font
Cankama.png My latest font includes several OpenType features including Petite Caps and Ligatures. This is the first to include a feature for fractions. If the user types 1/2 with this feature enabled it will change to ½ automatically. You will need an application that supports OpenType features (e...

Re: Are OpenType and budget software incompatible?
I discovered from this post that Firefox 3 supports Ligatures in OpenType fonts. If the following code is used on a web page and the named font contains ligatures, then they are used. <p style="text-rendering: optimizeLegibility; font-family: Palatino Linotype; font-size: 60px;"> Firefox3 ...
