The handwriting font is really nice. I can see you will soon be able to produce some professional quality fonts. It looks like you started with using another font though as there are some glyphs like Æ and Thorn that don't belong. It is better to start with a new font from FontCreator and copy your ...

Re: Font Size incorrect

I did find the auto-kerning and the other wizards invaluable. It makes me very tempted to go the whole hog and buy the pro edition! Although all essential tasks can be done with the Home Edition, even if you are not using FontCreator commercially, the Pro version is well worth its higher price. Fea...

Re: Font Size incorrect

However, I was having some difficulty with the infrastructure. When the 'show formatting' in Word was turned on, I was getting small rectangles for my spaces, no proper para returns, and having great difficulty in selecting blank lines. Obviously I had not got some non-printing characters properly ...

Creating a new font with only specified characters is easy enough by using the Insert Character dialogue, but I cannot think of a way to extract only specified characters from a font, or to delete all of the others. You can, of course, sort the font, then find a particular code-point, and start manu...

Times New Roman has a CapsHeight of 1356 funits, while Arial's is 1466. You can use the Glyph Transformation wizard to stretch all of your glyphs by the same amount. If you're using the Home Edition, try this method to enlarge all glyphs by 50% 1. Select All, Copy 2. Format settings, General, Units ...

Making a Smooth Bracket Delete any excess nodes at the bracket, leaving only three on-curve nodes, or add an on-curve node if needed. Drag the middle node of the three horizontally in line with the third node until the first node shows as red. The red nodes indicate that an on-curve node is redunda...

Skewing Contours Sometimes you don't know the precise angle to use in the Glyph Transform wizard, or the amount of skew to use on the Transform Toolbar. The easiest method is to use the skew handles. Select a contour or several contours with marquee or shift select, and click the selection again to...

Nothing Left to Take Away

Some members may be wondering about my signature since my fonts are full of glyphs that most fonts don't contain. That is because I want them to be useful to a wide range of users for all kinds of tasks. What I mean is that the perfect glyph has just enough nodes, but no more. This makes editing eas...

Thanks Dave. I think you're probably right. The manual could use some practical tips like this. For now, I have added it to my Smooth Curves tutorial.

With two off-curve nodes between two on-curve nodes at extreme points, a curve can range from pointed almost like the sharp corner of a rectangle to completely flat, like a straight line. A single off-curve node won't result in a perfect quadrant, and nor will two off-curve nodes, but it can be very...
