Anti-aliasing gone?

I am using the trial version of the product. I have a font I want to edit, so I open the OTF font in FC. Without making any changes other than naming changes, I save the font.

When I use the saved font in an application like Microsoft Word, the font seems to have “lost” its anti-aliasing. Word properly anti-aliases the original font, however.

Am I missing something here? I’ve searched the forums for tips but couldn’t find any.

As far as I know, just saving the OTF as a TTF from FontCreator won’t removing hinting. Check for the presence of a letter “H” on the top left corner of the rulers in the Glyph Edit Window. Also, check the settings in Options, Font, Remove hinting data when opening font files. Then check Format, Greyscales, and Format, Tables.

When you open a TrueType or OpenType font in FontCreator, font tables will be removed, based on specific Font Settings.

When you open a PostScript based OpenType font (usually a font file with .otf extension) in FontCreator, it is automatically converted to a TrueType based font. This conversion does remove all hinting data.

I assume there isn’t an easy way to preserve the hinting in opening a PostScript based font? Would be a nice enhancement, wouldn’t it?
