I am creating an OTF font. I have about 5000 Arabic Ligatures for OTF font. I have added 1400 ligatures in this font. Please guide me about “Font Direction Right to Left” and “Individual Glyph form” for Microsoft Windows XP platform, which may support these 5000 ligatures. I am working in “Font Creator v. 5.5 Pro”, which is supporting only 225 glyphs. I have added 1400 glyphs in my font in Microsoft Symbol form but it displays only 220 glyphs in testing process of font. Please tell me about “Programming Languages” used in font creation and “Software” used in OTF font creation.
FontCreator doesn’t support adding features to OpenType fonts. You can read about them in the manual: OpenType Fonts
Questions about using MS VOLT should be asked on the MS VOLT forums.
Note: only the first 224 characters of symbol fonts will be accessible, a space and up to 223 printing characters.
A search for “Arabic” will find several previous threads on this subject. Since most of us don’t know Arabic, and don’t produce Arabic fonts, there is not a lot we can do to help.
I am one of those inexperienced with Arabic writing but have a collection of Arabic fonts which are all TTF fonts (which surprises me). There are some in open type format. Of course, some of them have more than 224 characters.
The smaller ones (< 256 glyphs) appear to be Symbol encoding. The larger ones seem to be normal Unicode fonts (not Symbol fonts) so there should be no particular problem adding glyphs and Unicode mappings with Font Creator.
