Boxes appear instead of characters on some computers...

Hi,

I have developed a set of Symbol fonts that seem to work well on most systems. However, I sometimes have people tell me that though they can select a font, only boxes appear when they type. It only happens on a few of the fonts, and only on a few computers. Usually a reboot after installation fixes the problem.

The last person to tell me this was using 3 identical laptops with 128mb RAM and 1gb processor running Windows XP. The fonts worked fine on 2 of them, but not on the third. The odd thing was, if they selected the font from the “Format” menu, it worked! But not if they selected it on the pull-down menu. Any ideas?

Hello Chris,

Can you send a copy of your font directly to me? I’ll see if I can identify your problem. The font is only used for the purpose of reproducing and understanding the reported problem.

I can’t find real serious problems, but did use the font validation feature to remove a lot of redundant points and to correct contour directions. You should have received this modified version of your font in your mailbox by now.

Do you know if those people who have problems with your fonts are running a specific Windows version?
