Boxes in output(ttf/otf/woff)

Whenever I generate output using font creator 7.0 pro, most of the glyphs in the output is replaced by box character. See the screenshots.

I use Windows 7 and generate output in ttf/otf/woff - same problem in all cases. :frowning:

First of all, please make sure you are allowed to modify the specific font. If you are not sure, do contact the font vendor.

During the 30-day evaluation period, FontCreator runs in professional edition mode and all features are enabled, but the fonts you export will contain only a subset of characters.

We don’t have a professional edition which produces fonts like you mentioned, so it looks like you are not running a legal copy of our software. When you buy a license, you will be able to export all characters.

Warning: Software piracy is illegal. On several download and torrent sites you can download the so called High Logic Font Creator 7 Professional Full Version, also known as High-Logic FontCreator Professional Edition 7.0.0.353 Full with Patch which makes you believe it is free copy of the professional edition of our software. Trying to install this illegal version of our font editor will harm your computer, as it installs several Trojans, Viruses, and spyware on your computer. The producer of the illegal copy gets paid per installed Virus and Trojan by Internet criminals who will rent your computer and try to steal credit card information, email addresses found on your computer, etc. The people who spread the news about such cracked version of our software make money by showing numerous advertisements, and sending you to malware-based sites. Don’t download from such web sites; it won’t do any good to you and to us.

You can download our software safely through our website:

You can clearly see I am using 30 day Trial version:

Why does it produces those box characters? If it saves a subset, it should not save the rest of them at all instead of replacing them with boxes.

And I downloaded for the official website.

Thanks.

You can clearly see I am using 30 day Trial version:

I can’t see that based on the screenshot, but I was confused when you talked about the professional edition.

Why does it produces those box characters?

It is common to display such box in case a character is missing.

You are probably running the first version of FontCreator 7, which didn’t explain this very well. In the mean time you can download a more recent version which shows a Trial notice as soon as you want to export your font file:

Erwin, I’m afraid that is not true. I downloaded version 7 today because I wanted to see how the optical metrics feature works. But, the trial version is the standard version. Not the pro version.

This is not how it should work and the dialog shows incorrect information.

I’ll see if we can fix it soon.

OK, thanks. I’ll uninstall version 7 trial and see what happens.

I suspect that you just needed to wait for an update.

My Review Page may give you some idea.

I tested it with differnt typefaces too, and found that even smaller values are needed for some fonts. The point is, that getting the side-bearings right is important before you start adding kerning values. If they are done right, you will need fewer kerning pairs too.

Also see my thread requesting a Quick Preview in the Feature Requests forum. I am using an old PC with on-board graphics chip.

One just hopes the fix comes within 30 days or I will not be able to run the trial anymore and will never find out whether this works and is worth the 200 Euro.

Ehh, mumble, I know about bearings …

We’ve just released a minor update that fixes this issue, so you should now be able to evaluate the Optical Metrics during the trial period. Use the built-in update feature to get this latest version (or download from our download page), and let us know your results!

Thank you Erwin, it works.
