Can I copy glyphs from existing fonts ?

Hi,

I am developing a new font, which will have the roman alphabets included in it. Does there exist a way in which I can copy the glyphs from some existing font instead of drawing them from scratch.

Most fonts are subject to copyright, even free fonts.

My fonts are distributed under GNU license agreement. You can copy any of the glyphs, but your fonts must then also be distributed under the same license terms.
