What I am trying to do is to get a Windows font (say, tahoma) , and what I want is to edit it to change the size of all the characters, so say the 12 size is bigger than usual, so the font can be used for accessibility issues in a mobile device.
Can you give me instructions on how to do that ? Should I redraw all items of the font manually ?
Welcome to the Font Creator Forum. This is a very easy problem to solve with Font Creator.
Will give the cautions right away: Don’t mess with the system installed fonts directly. Make a play copy with a new file name that you can change and discard. Even if the changes you make are right, for your protection, don’t replace a system font with your version as it will be confusing to many applications.
Open the font file. Go to Tools/Glyph Transformer/Outlines/Scale. Use arrow to move Scale to the Script box. Enter the Outlines - Scale values you want for both Horizontal and Vertical. Select the Around parameter (I use Corner or Middle of Glyph.) Press OK.
Font/Test (F5) to display the changed font. Note the lines are close together and some ascenders/descenders will be cutoff. So: Format/Settings/Metrics - Calculate and Format/Settings/Ranges - Calculate to adjust character sizes and line widths. Use Font/Test (F5) again to display the corrected font.
Save As your new font. Font/Install. You are done and the font should be visible in any application.
Final caution: Glyph Transformer changes cannot be Undone which is another reason to keep an original around.
