Hi,
I am beginner in font creation and here is my question:
I try to make a musical font and use it in graphics. I want to be able to move on a point(x,y) which will become my vertical reference (baseline). Then, each character will be aligned on this baseline.
I tested a font and see that the reference is the top left corner of the “container” of each glyph. So i tried to shift up some of them but of course, the upper part disappeared.
Is there a way to choose this vertical reference for each glyph. Of course, this position shall not vary whatever the font size is.
Sorry for my bad english
Thank you
I do not fully understand your question at this time.
However, hopefully others will join in too.
I did make an experimental music font some years ago.

There are some notes about it in the following web page, just over half-way down. Most of the notes are not relevant here, but looking at the table, columns 2 and 3, and looking at the picture may help.

If you and other readers try the CPMUSICA.TTF font maybe we can work out the answer to your question.
One note, the CPMUSICA.TTF font was made with Softy, before I knew about the FontCreator program.
If anyone wants a font where the glyphs of the CPMUSICA.TTF font are in the Private Use Area places, together with some more glyphs for this simple percussion music, the following font has them.

With musical symbols they must align on the stave.
§≡b≡b≡p≡b
§≡p≡b≡b≡p
You can use evenly spaced guidelines for the stave. The bottom of the stave should be at y=0. The notes are positioned relative to that. Some notes will need a large descender. Never mind, position them where you need to, then Format, Settings, Metrics, Recalculate to move the WinAscent and WinDescent lines. Then the notes won’t be cut off.
