CJK characters problem

First: I’m only looking for a quick solution of creating a font for the hiragana characters in Japanese that appears like 8-bit.
It’s based on a font called Press Start 2P.

However: the hiragana characters won’t display properly in Word etc.(They got replaced with another font called MS Gothic) I’ve checked the ‘character ranges’ and it seems there are no problems with them.
So what’s the deal here…
PressStart2P_2.ttf (65.2 KB)

I calculated the ranges and characters sets, installed the font, and tested it in LibreOffice. It seems to be working OK.

Ahh sorry, but that one still doesn’t work. It’s not only with my computer, another guy also says it glitches.
Any hiragana still gets replaced with MS Gothic or MS Mincho.

Try this version — I added the entire Hiragana character set, although I haven’t added any glyphs to the new characters.

OK, somehow it works after some more adjusting… Thanks.

That is good news. Do let us know exactly what you did to solve the problem, so other people can learn from your experience. Thanks!

As far as I can tell PressStart2P_2.ttf didn’t work because the character sets were missing.

My first attempt didn’t work, because I have Hirigana and Katikana hidden in Blocks.txt.

After re-enabling those, and recalculating the ranges and character sets, my second attempt worked. Completing the character set is probably irrelevant.

LibreOffice didn’t care either way — it just used the selected font.

Thank you for taking time to explain how you solved the problem.
