Constant stroke width?

Would there be a way to snap or constrain to a constant stroke width? Say you import a graphic that’s pretty smooth and well-defined. But there are still variations in width as one moves around the curve, say a capital letter, O. Would there be a way to constrain the filled-in part to a constant normal thickness? just by pressing a button (kind of like the ancient, Sketchpad). Would there also be a way to select just part of a contour in order to resize it, rather than the whole thing. Say you have the same capital, O, and you’ve constrained the width to a constant 100 all around at every point, but you want it to bulge a bit on either side. You could select most of the right and stretch wide, then select most of the left contour, and stretch left.

Take a close look at the Transform tool. It can do some of what you want. For example, if you have a degree symbol ° that you wish to make perfectly symetrical, you can select each contour and use the transform toolbar to apply precise size and position.

There are some geometric shapes on the Samples toolbar too, so you can drag a perfect circle into the glyph, then resize it to the size you need, or make it into an ellipse. Copy and paste the resized circle, reverse the direction, and resize or scale it to create the inner contour.
