Contravening Copyright Laws?

Hi,

I want to take the font Arial, re-name it and modify several of the characters by simply replacing the Arial Upper Case values with the equivalent Lower Case values. The intention is to embed the re-named font in our Word documents (which will be distributed to our Clients) so that we can control the look of certain Upper Case Arial characters (i.e. they will in fact render in Lower Case).

Is this illegal; does it contravene any font copyright laws etc.?

Thanks,
Andy

Yes, it would. It would be much safer to start with the Bitstream Vera font from the Gnome Project. Read the license agreement.
