Creating a font with pictures of the individual letters

Hi there

I’ve got a little problem. After downloading the trial version of font creator, i tried to create my own font.

Well, i wanted to create the font with individual pictures of the single letters (characters). Here they are:

Long story short: Is it even possible? Could anyone help me with this problem?

Are you looking to produce a font which is something like this font?

That font was made (by me) using Font Creator.

The letter designs are not the same as in your illustration, I am just meaning like it in a broad sense of what you are trying to achieve.

I downloaded a copy of the illustration file from your post and looked at it magnified in a graphics program.

The only, minor, problem appears that there are SP, arrow and OK symbols of which two, the SP and the OK are not, as far as I know, Unicode characters and the arrow could be one of various characters. Yet that is a minor matter, it is just a matter of deciding where to put them, either in a special area known as the Unicode Private Use Area or in the place which Unicode reserves for some other symbol.

There are broadly two ways you could go about making the font. One is to use the graphic as input to FontCreator and let FontCreator produce the glyph designs. The other is to draw them directly into FontCreator using the drawing tools.

I would tend to go for direct drawing for this font because of its block nature - production from a graphic could end up looking slightly misaligned. However, weigh that with views from other people because most of my fonts are directly drawn into FontCreator rather than from importing graphic designs and I prefer that method.

However, I have now tried importing the image using FontCreator using Tools | Import Image… though it is important to note that one of the code positions needs to be highlighted first. It does not really matter which one but I used the @ symbol as that is not one of the characters in your illustration.

I then used, on the Image panel of the dialogue the Load… button to load in the 4c9ff817.png file, checked the negative box, then chose None and Pixels. On the Glyph panel of the dialogue I changed Multiplier to be 100.00 and then clicked the Generate button. The results look encouraging and there is now the tedious job of moving each of the designs to the correct letter position and of aligning them. However, that could be quicker than drawing each letter directly in turn, though there could be some time saving by, say, using an already-drawn glyph as a basis for other letters. By the way, I did not get the above result first time - I had several goes and it got better each time - the above method is the latest go.

Does anyone have any ideas of how to get the designs distributed and aligned more quickly than a one by one select it, copy it, paste it, move it manual process?

There was a thread about pixel fonts earlier this year.

Hey, thanks for your help! At least i know now how to import own graphics ^^

Btw, did you try to get further? If yes, could you maybe send me your file? Or could you even create the font for me completely? =/

And yes, do you have icq, msn or something? It would helpe me a lot
