Cut out objects do not import properly.

Hi, I have had a problem which was solved successfully on the forum so i am hoping that this problem can be solved just as easily.

I am designing a font for the vinyl industry where I need objects to be be cut out from other objects.
A example.pdf (388 KB)
. In the PDF the circle indicated has been cut out from the background object but when imported into Fontlab the circle is duplicated. I will have one circle on top of the other without it being cut out from the background. I have imported it in as a PDF file and as an .EPS file.
I have also tried combining the circles but to no avail.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks
Dora

To have a white circle (counterclockwise contour) on top of the white contour, you need the second black circle (clockwise contour) underneath it. There’s no way around that. However, the two circles are so similar in size that FontCreator cannot decide which way the rotation should be — the underlaying circle is 38x37 funits, and the top one is 37x37 funits @ 2048 funits per em. Just reverse the rotation of the top circle to counterclockwise.

Are you still using 4096 funits per em?

No, I had to go up to 8192 for this one. I don’t know why but that is the only setting to get the perfect circles.

Now I understand why in fonts and once converted to curves insets of characters become separate objects!
Can you please give a simple explanation of what the function of “complete composites” does?
Thank you so much

I already did. Complete Composites.
