I’m trying to clean up how the fonts on my system are organized so that they display in a more organized manner in programs like Adobe Indesign. I’ve been reading on here that I might not actually want to be editing an .otf with FontCreator so I was wondering if anyone could suggest the easiest way to edit the naming properties of my fonts.
For instance, all of my versions of Myriad Pro are all organized under the Myriad Pro font family name but my Scala fonts are all over the map.
I was surprised to find that I can edit *.otf fonts with FontCreator, without any problems. Run the Autonaming Wiard, enter your desired font name, and from the file menu use Save As… In the save dialogue, type the desired DOS filename including the *.otf extension, e.g. Scala Regular.otf. Then install the new font.
Let us know your results. If it fails, at least you still have the original.
If they were digitally signed *.otf, then the icon will show as an OpenType icon, when modified, then the icon will show as a Truetype font, but they will still function as an OpenType font. None of my free fonts are digitally signed, but they have OpenType features, which is what matters.
