Finding symbols

I want to create a font containing symbols that in themselves have nothing to do with letters. Is there a way to give them individual names to make it easier to find them when I want to use them? (In existing fonts I can see they have names like “Digit seven” or “Latin capital letter O”, but the names are not identical in all fonts.) I would like to give my symbols descriptive names.

Regards, Mikaël

“DIGIT SEVEN” and “LATIN CAPITAL O” are the same in all Unicode fonts — they are the Unicode names for mapping purposes. The postscript names can be whatever you want but they should have no spaces e.g. “onequarter”, not “one quarter.”

You can show the Postscript name as the Overview caption.

Thankyou for your answer. Since I’m pretty new to the program, I was hoping for a more detailed answer. But what you did mention helped me to find the right information in the Help section.
Right-click a single glyph (character) in the Glyph Overview window (the window with all the characters) and select Properties. See/change Postscript name on General page.
