[FIXED] Curious bug with PDF import?

Hello. Previously I used to have no problem with importing PDF files. But can’t seem to import newly created ones. This is same with my old FC 6.5 and a friend’s new FC 12.

I attach two files.

One, not-working.pdf is created with latest Inkscape, and doesn’t get imported. The metadata says it was created using cairo 1.15.10.

An earlier file working.pdf, possibly created with an earlier version of Inkscape but I can’t recall what exact version, gets imported without any problems. The metadata says cairo 1.13.1.
working.pdf (1.73 KB)
not-working.pdf (2.09 KB)

We will look into this. Expect a response next week.

It also fails for me in FC12.

If I open the PDF in PagePlus X9 and do a Preflight test, I get an error:

Box Mismatch: The Trim Box Exceeds the Bleed Box

Exporting the PDF fixes it for FontCreator import.
not-working.pdf (3.99 KB)

So it is a bug in Inkscape PDF write?

I’m not certain it is that there is a pagebox error. I don’t have my low-level pdf tools installed at the moment, but both Acrobat and pdfToolbox report all page boxes are identical to 5 decimal places. I would need the low-level stuff to investigate the page boxes further.

If I rewrite the PDF using the GhostScript method shown at https://superuser.com/questions/278562/how-can-i-fix-repair-a-corrupted-pdf-file then I am able to import into FC without any problem.

But when the original PDF output by Inkscape can be opened in other readers, it would be good if FC can import it as well without throwing an error.

Thanks all!

The next upcoming FontCreator update will support the PDF created with the latest version of Inkscape.

So it’s not something that I have to report to the Inkscape people? I was busy with other things so haven’t done that yet.

No, I don’t think so. FontCreator didn’t expect a comment in some part of the document structure, and that caused the problem.
