Font display disappeared

I just downloaded a trial of MainType … have long awaited a really good font manager! I love the interface. Now, the rub:

I created the group “Scripts light,” selected about 10 fonts from my “Active Fonts” list and used “Add to Group” to move them to the new group.

Now there is an empty field where the name should appear, in BOTH “Active Fonts” and “Scripts Light.” The fonts do not display in the preview pane or the character pane. The program tells me they’re still loaded.

I’ve attached a screen shot; I appreciate anyone who can help.
Thanks!
Elise

I’m not able to reproduce this behavior, so I’m very curious about this issue. What happens if you right-click in the font list on the Active tab and then select “Refresh F5”?

Thanks for the question, and sorry for the delay in my reply! I didn’t get a notification that you replied. To answer your question, refreshing the list didn’t add any of the missing fonts.

Some additional info:

  • All the fonts say they’re loaded. However, when I right-click on the font inside the “Active” window and select, “Install,” the installation fails with the message, “Could not install the font, because the source file is unknown.”

When I right-click the same font in the “Groups” window to install the same font, it fails with the message, “A similar font is already loaded.”

The missing fonts do not display anymore in my PDF documents.

Finding / moving the fonts in folders on my computer:

  • The fonts are all missing from my Windows Fonts folder

Some, but not all, of the missing fonts are in my Adobe InDesign Fonts folder (in program files). These fonts DO function correctly in InDesign.

Other fonts appear in the InDesign drop-down fonts menu, but not in the Fonts folder. These fonts do NOT load properly into the InDesign document.

When I copied Alako Bold from InDesign Fonts Folder into Windows Fonts Folder, it said it was already installed. I replaced the installation and it now displays properly in MainType.

When I copied Balzano STD InDesign Fonts Folder into Windows Fonts Folder, it said it was already installed. I replaced the installation and it does NOT display in MainType. I tried this procedure multiple times with the same results.

Some fonts no longer display in EITHER the Windows Fonts Folder OR the InDesign Fonts Folder.

Thanks in advance for any clues here.

We have just released MainType 3. This version has several improvements but also a couple of bug fixes. So I suggest you download and install MainType 3 from our download page and let us know your results.

I installed MainType 3. The fonts in the SCRIPT group were still showing as uninstalled, but (unlike before) MainType allowed me to install them from their location in the groups folder.

They now appear in Active Fonts again. Thank you.

Good to know!
