Font Letter Width Issue

Hi there,

I have a problem with a font I’m working on. It is supposed to look like a proportional matrix-type display font, seen in this photo;
PID_Amsterdam_RAI.jpg
I have the width of all letters set to multiples of 900, but when I go to test the font having a row of J’s and a row of |'s beneath it as seen
FontTest.zip (52.9 KB)
.
they don’t line up. I have verified that the Advance width of the J is set to 2700, and the Advance width of the “|” is set to 1800.

A copy of the font would be more useful than screen shots. Maybe your word-processor is adjusting the spacing between characters?

If the test font window inside FC changes spacing, that’d be a horrible way of testing it.
Added a copy of the font for testing.

Yes, it looks like there is are some errors in the Font Test Window.

If I open the font test window, then test the temporary font in PagePlus, the alignment looks to be correct.

Alright, anyway, thanks for your help. Awesome to see that even new users get helped here.

Edit: Sadly the problem continues after saving and installing, Microsoft Word won’t line them up properly.

It still doesn’t seem correct, even after some experimenting.

Could it be a problem because the width’s aren’t multiples of 1024?

I don’t think that would make any difference.

I fail to see the problem, but I noticed that the zero character has a wrong spacing.

It seems to be working fine in Photoshop, Office doesn’t seem to like it though. Also, Premiere Pro doesn’t draw the outlines of it.

I do see the irregularities in both Microsoft Word 2007 and FontCreator running on Windows 7, but it does work correctly in WordPad. I’ve seen similar spacing issues with others fonts as well, so I’m afraid this is a Windows issue that we can’t solve. Maybe it gets better with Windows 8 later this year…
