Font not recognized by MAC

I have a font that I customized with FC and VOLT. It is a OT TT font. I sorted the glyphs, did some editing, and added OT tables plus many glyphs. It works perfectly with Windows without a hickup, however MAC will not recognize it. any ideas? It has Macintosh Roman, Microsoft BMP only, and Unidoce 2.0 mappings.

Hi Fred,

It seems you’ve run into the same issue, as discussed here:

http://forum.high-logic.com:9080/t/fontbook-requires-fpgm-prep-and-cvt-tables-for-open-type/1796/1

Please send the font file to me and I’ll try to add hinting tables to it.

Very interesting!

Would it be enough to just have someone with FontLab regenerate the fonts? I am going to be having a lot of these kind of fonts, so if FontLab won’t do it I’ll wait until I have all of them to send it to you.

Hi Fred,

There must be another problem with your fonts, as they all contain hinting data. Maybe the Postscript glyph names (Format → Post) need to be regenerated, as (if I’m correct) Mac OS X uses them to map characters to glyphs. Also the DSIG table is no longer valid, so I suggest you remove that table. When your font is ready for production, you should also remove these tables: TSID, TSIP, TSIS and TSIV.

I hope these suggestions help.

What do you mean by ready for production? Is there any reason why I should not delete them now?

Nevermind, I see you mean the OT tables. Does this relly make a difference as far as functionality goes?

No I don’t think so, but since we don’t know the exact cause of the font problem , I see no harm in removing unnecessary tables. Just be sure to store a copy of the original font.

What is the exact message you get from your Mac?

It works!

I don’t know which of the exact things you mentioned caused it not to work. But now it works, thank you!

That’s great news!

Could you please try to find out the exact cause of the problem, so we can all learn from this? Thanks.
