How Can I Add 500 new charcters to the Private Area?

Hello.

I would like to add 500 new characters to the “Private Area” (which, apparently, is the only way I can get NEW characters).

How do I do it?

Or, in lieu of this, I would like to add 500 functioning characters that will be recognized by the MS Word Insert Function.

Thanks.

I’ve just referred to the Private Use Area in my reply to your posts in your other thread.

You add new characters there in the same way as you would add them to any other Unicode block. If you type $E000-$E1FF in the ‘Codepoint(s)’ box in the Insert Characters dialog, 512 characters (with glyph names uniE000, uniE001, etc) will be added to the Private Use Area.

To avoid possible typos when typing codes in the Insert Character Dialogue, double-click on the first character in the desired range to insert it into the edit field; hold down shift key and double-click on the last character in the desired range.

It is not possible to add characters that already exist in the font, so don’t click on the green characters in the dialogue. Green characters within the range are not a problem, however, so you can use double-click then shift + double-click to insert all characters within the range that do not already exist.
