How do you Copy/Paste just part of a Font?

Hey… I can select the whole font and copy/paste it… but I just want to copy like the top half of a font… and then paste it… for instance… I want to edit a capitol “I” to make the top and bottom the same… I’m trying to select the top half to copy/paste it… but when I use the select tool and drag it over the top half of the font… once I let off the mouse… the selection disappears before I can copy. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

The letter “I” is a single shape, or contour. The letter “O” is usually two contours, while the “B” is usually three contours. You can only select, and move or copy individual contours, not half of one.

To make the “I” symmetrical about the horizontal axis, cut in half somewhere below the middle to get two contours. Select the bit you don’t want to keep and move it to the right by pressing shift right a few times.

Select both contours with Select All (Control A), then copy and Paste a pair of duplicates. Use the Flip Vertical icon to mirror the duplicate you just pasted.

Drag select around the two bits on the right that you don’t want and delete them.

Control A to select the remaining two contours, and use “Get Union of Contours” to join them. This assumes that you’re still using the 30-day trial version. If you are using the Home Edition, that feature is not available, and nor is the knife, so cutting and joining contours is a bit harder, though still possible.
