I am having trouble importing images. Despite making sure they’re all the right size (300x300 px as instructed) They all end up cropped to the right, with the cropped bit ending up on the left. Very odd.
There’s probably a really obvious setting that I’m overlooking, could someone please enlighten me?
Recommended image dimension between 100x100 and 500x500 pixels
However, it will depend on the shape of the image. I found that wide images can do with being 500 pixels high, and as wide as necessary (within reason). If an image is very wide, reduce the height. I have never come across the problem you describe. What bitmap format are you using?
I tend to open the image in Irfan View, and paste it into Font Creator via the clipboard, but if you want access to further import options then you need to do it from the import image dialogue.
Can you post the image somewhere? If not, you can send it to me by email.
This does sound strange. I just opened a font at random and picked an empty glyph. I right clicked, selected Import Image and selected a complex cartoon in jpg (204KB) format without worrying about size or changing any controls.
Ugh! 390 contours, 4576 points. Here are my results:
It seems like I’m doing everything you’ve done. Right click, import image, (300x300 px jpg - 572KB) the preview shows me my image (a zero) shoved over to the right, so part is cropped out, and with the missing section showing to the left of screen. (sorry, can’t work out screenshots.) When I import it into the document, that’s exactly what I get. As if the image has been cut in half and the halves switched, so my zero ends up looking like this )(
It doesn’t happen on all of them, just the fat ones 0 O K L etc.
I’m not sure but maybe you need to adjust the bearings.
Around the glyph there are four lines that represent the Bearings. These are shown by default but you can hide them through the “Show Bearings” button on the drawing toolbar. The left and right bearings can be changed by dragging them to their desired position.
You could also adjust the bearings through the bearings tab on the Transformation toolbar, or when you right click a glyph in the overview window and select “Properties…”. Here you can alter the left side bearing and the advance width.
Thanks to all who replied to this,
I have solved the problem by increasing the size of the canvas to 700x700 px. The actual image remains the same size, and when I import it, I get the entire image with a lot of white space around. I have to resize in the edit screen, but the result is fine for my purposes.
I still have no idea why it was doing that though.
Bhikkhu Pesala - my jpg was large because of the high resolution and high save quality - I think I was going overboard, but I wanted to preserve the texture as much as possible. Perhaps this has something to do with my problem?
