The font I created only shows horizontal lines in the pulldown window (MS Word), no verticals lines. It works fine otherwise, just not displaying properly in the pulldown. It is a block letter with sharp corners.
Also, how do I display the family name in another font similar to the way symbolics are displayed? For example can I display the Arial font for my family name?

Word displays font names in their font. You can disable this, but that affects all fonts. Symbol fonts (and fonts without the Latin 1 code page set) are the only exception; they are shown in a default font and symbols mapped to these characters are shown after the font name: ‘AbCdEfGhIj’.
So Can I then create this font without the Latin 1 Code set?
Also, any clue why the font does not show all of the lines, only the horizontal ones?

It most likely has something to do with the lack of hinting. Adding grayscale support to your font might help.
