Kerning info lost after exporting

Hi There,

I edited a font file (otf) to add there some missing characters. I did just this, nothin else. New characters are working nicely, but strange thing appeared: The kerning of all characters was changed, despite I did not edited that characters at all!
For example I add řšč characters, but when trying “VÁ” combination, see the resultbelow (black before, yellow after):

Why there is a change in kerning between characters I did just not edited? Is there some exporting issue or bug?

And furthermore I tried to find in this font kerning pairs — there seems to be none of them! Impossible. The font is nice & tidy, there must be some kerning inside!

If you would be insterested I prepared both font files to download here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m84gnnilcpg1w5b/TestFont.zip?dl=0
There is the original file and the file where I added a few characters which caused destroying the kerning at all. Would you be able to download them and explain to me my both questions?:

  1. How it is possible that the FontCreator do not show any kerning pairs?
  2. Why kerning is missing in entire font after exporting?

Thank you in advance!

Which version of FontCreator are you using?

The Added Characters version contains no kerning data. Probably you did not export it after adding it to the project.

Check the font Export Settings. Include both GPOS and legacy kern tables to ensure that kerning works in all applications.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.

I am running version 7. I export with both tables included (excluding one of them does not help).

OK then. It is true, that I did not create additional kerning pairs for the newly inserted characters. But why the problem span across the whole font? And why the editor shows no kerning pairs? I tried to open another, randomly choose font and I found there 2000+ kerning pairs. But in this font not even one. This is strange.

The original font contains no kern table. The kerning uses GPOS kerning tables.

FontCreator 8 can convert the GPOS kerning to legacy kern tables on export.

See the attached file. I added the new Capitals to the Capital Spacing Adjustment Pairs.

As Bhikkhu Pesala pointed out, you will need FontCreator 8 to have advanced kerning support (GPOS pair adjustment and much more).
