How can I change the height of the upper limit marker in the glyph window?
Format, Settings, Metrics, Ascender is the top line. Or use Calculate to let Font Creator decide.
Thanks but it doesn’t work for me. The ascender height stays the same.
In Format->Tables you might have to remove the VDMX table. If Windows does not locate this table in a font, it will calculate those values itself. This will take some extra milliseconds the first time glyphs are loaded into the rasterizer. I don’t think we should worry about that.
To regenerate this table you could use a utility from Microsoft called CacheTT, located at:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/tools/tools.htm
CacheTT is a utility to enable the modification of TrueType and TrueType Open files. Modifications include creation/ modification of one or more of the tables VDMX, hdmx and LTSH by calculating and caching values obtained from the Rasterizer. The resulting font is a complete and correct font.
In case this doesn’t help, please send a copy of your font directly to me and I’ll see if I can identify your problem.
Then manually change the ascender height, entering a larger value.
I did try that but still no change. My work around is to use another font with the right height and change al the glyphs to mine.
I believe it is WinAscent value that needs increasing and then set Ascender value to the same figure. It’s puzzling that the Calculate button did not work.
Joe.
Thanks, Joe. That works.
Good thinking Joe!
The Calculate button should works as well. When the height is still not high enough, you should tick Maximum prior to pressing the Calculate button.
Yes, well done Joe. The calculate sometimes goes higher. I like using a commercial font to to start with then change the glyphs to my own because FCP updates all the glyphs with marks over them automatically. Good stuff, Erwin.
