I’m a new registered/licensed Font Creator (5.6) user who just started the “My first font” tutorial. The instructions say “Now you will see the Glyph Overview window. All cells have a caption and to give you a visual guidance, most cells contain a sample character shown as light blue outlines.” I see no light blue outlines; a few characters (digits and some punctuation/dingbats) have real glyph information (not light blue outlines), but the cells for the Latin alphabet and most everything else are completely blank. I did leave the radio button for “include outlines” selected when I created the new font (when I deselect this option, even the numbers don’t appear). Is this my error, or are the light blue outlines in question no longer available?
The blue outlines shown in the Glyph Overview window are provided by the font in YOUR Windows Font Folder selected by: Tools > Options > Overview > Font used by Samples -Not to be confused with Samples on the left side of the screen.
I believe the default font is Arial.
I left the line blank, and still got blue outlines possibly from some system font that looks like Roman, so unless you are using an empty font, I don’t see how you got all blanks.
Thank you for the quick response. Apparently the default in Tools > Options > Overview is not to show outlines, and I had to check the box explicitly to show the outlines. The tutorial doesn’t mention anything about needing to set this value, and since the tutorial doesn’t direct the (new) user to the Tools > Options > Overview page, I wasn’t aware that it needed to be set. In any case, I’ve now configured it and it seems to be working as advertised.
Apologies for the misplaced posting. The forum label said “Tutorials and Solutions,” so I thought it was the right place for questions about the official tutorials, but I now realize that the heading must have meant “Provide your own tutorial information here,” rather than “Discuss problems with the official tutorial here.”
