I have created a symbol font which looks great, and have the spacing between the symbols just right. My problem is that I don’t understand how to adjust the spacing between lines…the line gap, I guess it is called. So right now, if I type two lines of symbols in, say, Word, with the font, the spacing between the two lines is too close.
I’m guessing that I need to adjust the settings in the Font Properties/Metrics area, but when I read the help file, I’m totally lost.
Is there is tutorial on how to adjust the settings so the spacing above and below the chararacters is better?
Or a general rule of thumb?
(I read one post saying you can use the top of a lower case d…except there is no d in my symbol font.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Just use the Calculate (maximum) button on the Metrics tab to fix the line-spacing to what is recommended. All glyphs will then fit between WinAscent and WinDescent.
If you want to increase the default spacing to more than that, add some funits to the line gap metric.
For a font of 2048 funits per em, if the sum of:
Ascender + Descender + Line Gap = 2048 funits, the default line-spacing will be 100% of the point size. (10pt @ 10pt)
Ascender + Descender + Line Gap = 2253 funits, the default line-spacing will be 110% of the point size. (10pt @ 11pt)
Ascender + Descender + Line Gap = 2458 funits, the default line-spacing will be 120% of the point size. (10pt @ 12pt)
Ascender + Descender + Line Gap = 2662 funits, the default line-spacing will be 130% of the point size. (10pt @ 13pt)
