Logos as TTF

I have always like the idea of using a TTF for easily placing our company logo in documents. For internal documents that has not been an issue since all 9000 employees could install the custom font.

When send out correspondence, where the recipient does not have the custom font installed, I would like to see a simple mechanism to help with the install.

Is there a method of attaching a “self installing” font program to correspondence - that only appears if the recipient does not have the font? That is, when a Word document arrives, the the font is not present on the machine, a self-install pop-up appears. If the font has already been installed, it would not. If security is an issue for the recipient, this pop up should be able to be disabled.

Any comments?

Dick.

It is possible to embed fonts in Word documents. Check the help file for Word.

This topic explains how to embed fonts in Word documents:
Make optimal use of fonts in Microsoft Word

Not to sound too negative, but don’t forget to uninstall it when you leave! Not nice to clutter up someone else’s machine …

Wonder if in fact PDF might not be the way to go with formal correspondence? Seems structure already in place to read these (that is, “everybody” has Adobe’s pdf reader).

If I use Adobe to create a document, can I presume that when I use a special font for my company logo, it will be embedded in the document?

Yes, but make sure you have set Embed All Fonts in Adobe Acrobat Distiller Fonts tab.

In word the setting is to allow embedding fonts, but there is also a check box that says “do not embed common fonts”. I am not sure you would want to imbed all fonts in Adoble documents, but rather only the ones that are not common - and more importantly possibly only the characters used rather than the entire font.

Is this how it is set up in Adobe?
