They will work, just copy and paste this line of text:
You can also use the Insert Symbol feature within Word to add characters.
Personally I don’t recommend using the private use area, as such “characters” are not equal for all fonts.
If characters have no code-points defined by the Unicode Consortium, what else can one do besides using the Private Use Area? One can leave them unmapped, but then the only way to type them would be by using OpenType features.
It might be practical to add Standard Ligatures for M~ m~ Q~ and q~ to substitute M tilde and Q tilde, but how should one define Q dot above?
I am curious to know why voyager needs these glyphs; which language uses them?
Hi,
I can see the font in Font Creator editor but I cannot see them in MS Word 2016 again. How can I find the new character in MS Word 2016.
Also, I couldn’t see the new characters on Font Creator test module.
Plese, review the attachment.
The new glyphs have no code-points, so they won’t show up in any character map. However, they are easy to insert using Standard Ligatures, just like ligature ffi is easily inserted by typing f f i these new glyphs are inserted by typing m~ etc.
This method avoids the problems associated with mapping them to the Private Use Area. If you later change the font to one that does not support mtilde, the original text string of m~ will be seen.
I added it in MS Word 2016 but it does not appear.
I just would like to add a new character to any font and use it İnsert > symbol in MS Word 2016.
Thank you.
I don’t have Word 2016 to test, but I am sure that it will support Standard Ligatures. If you want to do it the hard way by using Character Map then the answer was already give above by Erwin.
Hi,
I found the solution. And this is very important reminder I think.
If we add a new character to a font and then we install it over previous version We cannot see the new characters. I don’t know why.
But if we delete the previous version then install it, we can see the new characters.
