(Newbie) Font looks different between Mac, Windows 7

Hi, sorry for the newbie questions.

I just bought FontCreator, I made a font from my handwriting just to get the hang of it. It has the entire alphabet and a lot of the symbols, though not all of them because I just won’t need them. I got the spacing on every character the way I want it, it looks good for my purposes, so I saved the font and copied the file from the Windows font folder after it had been installed.

Then I copied that onto my Macbook so I could use the Area type tool in Illustrator, but I ran into a bit of a problem.

The kerning is all shifted around, so now some of the letters run into each other a little bit, even though I had it all sorted out not to do that. Other letters are much further apart from each other, which I also didn’t have it set at. I’m also missing a couple of characters (so far it just seems to be the ’ and " that are missing, even though I know I made those).

I’m sure I just screwed up some how but I don’t quite have a handle on some of the finer points of the program, so I’m not really sure what happened or why it’s a little screwed up on my Mac. If anybody has any insight as to what I’m doing wrong, I’d greatly appreciate it.

I’m not able to test the font on a Mac, but if you attach it here I can take a look for any obvious errors. See the thread just below yours on Kerning — if you do the spacing right, you won’t need to use kerning so much.

If you have used kerning, make sure that it is enabled in Illustrator. Not all programs even support it, some have a setting for the minimum font size above which to apply kerning.
