Newbie Question

I am so new, I don’t even have the program yet. I downloaded the Font Creator V5 and checked out the way it handles and I think it is great!

One question for you…
What is the difference between the home edition and the professional edition? I couldn’t find the answer anywhere on your site.

Thanks in advance,
Lester

Hello Les

What you downloaded from the download page is the 30 day trial version.
Thiis is identical to the full professional version, so you get a month to try out all the features to see if you need that much power. You can find the differences on this page.

Basically, you can do everything with fonts in the Home Edition that you can in the Professional Edition, but the Professional Edition automates a lot of functions which saves many hours when working with large fonts.

Font Creator 4 lacked these extras, so it took me about five days to complete on of my Unicode fonts with over 1,000 characters. With Font Creator 5 Professional, it now takes about five hours.

To get an idea of the value of Font Creator 5 Professional Edition at $99, compare it to Fontographer ($350) or Fontlab ($550). To be fair, these programs do have some features that Font Creator lacks, but they are not as easy to use. If you just want a toy to play with fonts, or make a single font of your own handwriting there are cheaper programs, but Font Creator is a serious professional tool.
