Some fonts contain Panose information, which may help with font substitution. Is it worth putting this in? It seems to be a complex subject of limited value. What is the minimum that one would need to add?
The Panose fields are used to describe the visual characteristics of a given typeface. These characteristics are then used to associate the font with other fonts of similar appearance having different names.
Many sophisticated word processors and DTP applications use the PANOSE information to find the best available match based on the installed fonts and the desired fonts.
I just stumbled into this note. Without this beginning I would never have even looked into this subject. This question developed Font Creator into the best Panose support out there. Many thanks!
The font world owes both of you a big debt of gratitude!
Hay Dave, 4 years later and you still didn’t answer his question!
What is the minimum that one would need to add?
