I created a font by hand then scanned it, and then imported it into illustrator for vectorization. upon vectorization using the live trace tool, i tried importing it into font creator. however the message the pops up is “no contours found in vector data”. then after a few tries to get the vecotred data to work i eventually tried converting it back into rasterized data. yet this still doesnt work. i tried png, gif, jpeg and even bitmap! yet still the problem arises. It must be noted that when using the rasterized image the message does not pop up however, the window within fontcreator for previewing and editing the letter is completely blank and has no data. i have tried flattening the image and once again bitmapping it. however it seems that as soon as illustrator touched the data the program cannot handle it. the image imported fine initially when i tried almost directly from the raw scan, so there is no issue with the images origin. thanks for your time, -r
I don’t see the point of using Illustrator to vectorize the bitmaps. FontCreator is optimised for vectorising bitmaps for fonts.
If you want to work on the vectors in Illustrator, create the font from the scans. install the font, then convert the text into curves within Illustrator, and use its vector tools to manipulate it.
To get vector images from Illustrator to FontCreator, save in AI format or PDF. I haven’t a clue what format it uses internally for copied vectors, but the Windows clipboard is only going to support WMF or Device Independent Bitmap.
Actually copy and paste from Adobe Illustrator should work, unless your image doesn’t contain closed paths.
What version of FontCreator do you use?
Also what version of Adobe Illustrator do you have?
Can you upload (or send it to me) the vector based image, so I can look into this issue?
Actually, I noticed I’m having a similar problem. When it’s not giving me the “no contours” issue, it’s converting all of my vectors into “clumps”. This had not been a problem before while I was using AICS3 and FontCreator 5.x, but now seems to be an issue since I’ve upgraded both (AICS4, FC6).
UPDATE: Installed the 6.0.1 update and find that it is still doing the same thing.
Without a sample AI file there is not a lot anyone can do. Please attach one to the forum.
