Problems with line spacing

I have adapted a font by adding a number of characters without changing anything else (as far as I know). Now the line spacing in the adapted font is considerably bigger than in the original font. This surprises me. because the values in the Format / Settings / Metrics screen are identical. Is there another setting somewhere defining line spacing (or line height)?

It surprises me too. As far as I know there is nothing else that would affect the line-spacing unless the font has a vertical metrics table (for vertical writing systems).

Take a look at the Tables for the original and modified fonts.

There is no vertical metrics table in either font, so the puzzle remains unsolved.

Did you change the height of H or x in some way?

Is “Remove VDMX table” disabled in the Options dialog (located on the Font tab)? You need to disable it before you open a font with that table.

Dave: No, I didn’t.

Erwin: No, this item was ticked when I opened the fonts, so I guess the VDMX table has been removed. Is this something new in FontCreator 6? In the past the modified font had exactly the same line spacing as the original one.

Please send both font files to me, and I’ll look into this. Also can you please tell us exactly in what software you see the differences, so we can try to reproduce it.

Thanks for your kind offer, Erwin. However, shortly after the modified font showed a wider line spacing my computer started to behave strange in other respects as well. So I’'ll figure out first if the font works correctly on other computers and sort out my other computer errors rather than - possibly needlessly - demanding your precious time.
