Hello;
I was wondering, is there a way that I can configure the font in such a way that when I type two successive letters, a third one appears instead?
It is somehow like when you use non-English keyboards when you press “`” + “e” you get “è” automatically… I’m trying to use the same concept but … not with the special signs like acute and the grave … but with normal latin letters.
I think ligatures are mainly made by kerning right?
The problem with kerning is, not all applications identify it, right?
I tried kerning once but the netscape (and I think IE) didn’t identify it but the Word identified them, for this reason I don’t want to use kerning.
Usually, I use the tricks of bearings to make a character appear upon another character, which works fine… for some time!
Ligatures are “a printed or written character consisting of two or more letters or characters joined together”. They are fully formed single glyphs and not kerned pairs of letters unless you are having to fake it!
It’s too bad kerning is not more fully recognized as it often completes the professional look of a document.
