Row height in Excel - relationship with data in Metrics

I’m trying to adjust the settings in Metrics so that the glyph heights are smaller, and this would then effect the row height in Excel.

Basically, if you reduce the following values, then the row height in Excel generally changes, generally being the keyword.
“Typo Ascender - Typo Descender”, “Win Ascent - Win Descent” and “Ascender - Line Gap”

But there doesn’t seem to be a consistent behavior.
Sometimes row height may jump from 21.75 to 18 for a small change above.
Sometimes, with the same difference, you get a different row height (eg 2150 & -500 may give a different row height compared to 2350 & -300).

Can you please explain it a bit better please.

Try changing the Contents and Layout version on Font Properties, General, then you can enable Use typo metrics for line spacing.

Thanks for responding.
There was a difference in the row height, it was reduced … BUT the font properties were lost though, they don’t look the same as created.

And when you go back to the original version, it’s not the same as before, ie row height is smaller and font looks different.

What is this for “Contents and Layout version”?

Actually, now on another file, the “Contents and Layout version” doesn’t make a difference.
